Ernest Barnett

Army Romance Major Ernest Barnett

Los Angeles, California

i joined a dating site, and i met a man who identified himself as major Ernest Barnett assigned at Kabul Afghanistan. it was nice at first, we would chat on ym all the time, he said he had a father who was an engineer and had passed away, mom was in Michigan. he was the only child. he even sent pictures. after 2 weeks of continuous chatting, he said he wanted to come home and meet up with me, but i have to send an email to this address- usafleavedept.com identifying myself as his fiancee. i did it and i got a response, but it would require me to send $850 for liberty pass and $285 for nato clearance. the site even has papers to print out and fill up. i was to send the money thru western union and send the mctn number to a po box addressed in Texas. i told him i did not have that much money, he said to just send whatever i have. since he does not have access to any money. i asked him if any of his friends can do it, he said he never had friends, what about his mom? he said mom was in Puerto Rico on vacation.i never did because it raised my suspicion. i consulted a friend from the army, and he said that it was a scam. if you met a guy posing as this major Barnett, or any guy who has the same line as i wrote, please avoid them.

Unfortunately these scams are not new and have been around for years. They are called "sweetheart scams" (Google it for more guys). MOST of these guys are from Nigeria, but say they are from the US doing business overseas. They fall instantly in love with you and then start asking for money. They usually say they are widowers and have a kid. And yes, they troll the dating sites and pay for memberships. Best to only date/meet local people and don't buy into the stories that they are overseas on business. And NEVER send them money!!
