Shopping Essentials

Rebate Fraud

Omaha, Nebraska, 68114

On an unaffiliated web site, you are encouraged to check a box that says, "yes, I would like a rebate." for $20 or so. You never get the rebate, but you do get billed 12-20 dollars per month. They will claim that you are offered rebates, but they lie. The monthly charge will appear as:
SHOPPINGESSEN272985850 11.95
or similar. Not real noticeable mixed in with a lot of other charges. That is the plan, of course: keep charging you until you notice then offer you a one month refund. I rate this as very severe not because of the economic damage to me, but because there are thousands and thousands and thousands of people being charged $10-20 per month and the credit card companies do not care and the legislatures are not doing anything.

Besides contacting several web sites, the BBB, the newspaper "action
line", the Attorneys General for California and Nebraska, and our
legislature about making piggy-backed evergreen charges illegal, I
haven't been doing much to get my money back. This is not a Nigerian
scam. This is where Shopping Essentials talks a third party web site
into allowing them to put a "$20 rebate" icon on their web site and,
if clicked, Shopping Essentials is given the credit card number and
authorization code for the sucker.\b\b\b\b\b\b\bshopper. "send them
the money" Pah! I don't think you read the post.
