Doughlas Jordan Cooper

Fake Military Sgt.

Sacramento, California

I met this man on bearshare, I was told it was a music sharing site, but apparently it has become a dating site as well. Anyway, he said he was in the military, a widower and he was looking for a good woman. He was really nice and polite and I did notice that his English wasnt the best, but i dismissed that. By the second time we spoke, he was calling me babe and telling methat he wanted to be with me and could i help him to get leave from Iraq. He wanted me to sign papers that were sent to me. When i saw these papers, I couldn't believe how fake they were and the e-mail adress to sent them to was militaryleave@gmail.com, not a government site. He wanted at first $800 to pay for his plane to come home, then he reduced the price to $655, saying his commander was gonna help. Uh-huh! I have send nothing and do not intend to. He is very convincing and can be so romantic, but I can't give money away. I was so close to helping him, he is on my YM right now and I am invisible cause i dont think i should talk to him again. Please ladies, beware- the pics of the Sgt. are nice, he looks handsome, but I am sure it is not even him.

Thank goodness for sites like this. I have recently been contacted by this same man through the site "My Atlantis" wanting to 'get to know me' and gave me his Yahoo email. Several things raised flags in my mind .. the fact that he said he was a soldier in Iraq, a widower with two children, and the complimentary things he said in his introductory message. Also the fact that he uses Yahoo which so many scammers do.

Having been sucked in once by a scammer, I learned a very valuable lesson to listen to my gut instincts and to do some searching before communicating. It's nice to know my instincts were right on in this particular case.

Thanks for sharing.
